Our client is the modern evolution of a stable, 20-year industry leader in the outdoor lighting space. Originally founded in 2006, the company underwent a strategic rebrand in 2024 to focus on year-round growth and expansion into large-scale commercial projects and municipal contracts. With a database of over 3,500 customers and a reputation for excellence, the company is currently in a high-growth phase. The owner is a recognized authority in the field, currently serving as the President of the national Association for Outdoor Lighting, ensuring the team stays at the forefront of industry trends and safety standards.
The Opportunity
As the Operations Manager, you will serve as the "nerve center" of the organization. This is a pivotal "bridge" role designed to balance office efficiency with the logistical demands of field-based lighting projects. The CEO is looking for an experienced leader to take over daily operations—managing the office, field coordination, and external vendors—so he can pivot his focus toward revenue generation and strategic scaling. Your success in this role will directly impact the company's ability to scale along the Florida coast, with the potential for this position to evolve into a Director of Operations or General Manager role as new locations are established.
The Location
This is an onsite position located at the headquarters in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area. While the role is primarily office-based, you will be responsible for holding the field teams accountable for their performance and site standards.
What You Will Do
Sales & Business Development (Primary Focus): Drive revenue growth by actively managing the sales team who is generating and closing new business. Which consists of them conducting site visits, prepare accurate estimates and professional proposals, upsell maintenance plans and upgrades, build long-term client relationships, and maximize repeat/referral business from our large customer database. Leverage networking and targeted outreach to expand into commercial and municipal opportunities.
Estimating & Proposal Management: Overseeing job estimating, pricing strategies, and proposal creation to ensure bids are competitive yet highly profitable.
Operations & Field Leadership: Manage field, service and installation operations thru the production team, overseeing the master scheduling/calendar for 12+ full-time employees and subcontractors, project execution, quality control, and on-time completion of installations, maintenance, and repairs.
Team Leadership: Act as the direct supervisor for the internal team. Handle hiring, training, performance management, and scaling the team from 12 members to upwards of 50 during peak seasonal ramp-up periods. Foster a high-performance, safety-focused culture.
Financial Performance (P&L Oversight): Monitor job costing, labor efficiency, material/vendor costs, and overall margins. Work closely with the owner and bookkeeper on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow.
Process Improvement: Improve internal workflows for lead intake, scheduling, billing, inventory, and service delivery. Manage vendor relationships and support the transition of digital aspects to third-party partners as needed.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to all safety standards, licensing requirements, and local regulations (Florida low-voltage/electrical lighting knowledge is a plus).
Who You Are
Experience: 5+ years of progressive leadership in field-service or home-improvement industries, with a strong emphasis on sales and revenue growth. Background in outdoor lighting, landscaping, irrigation, electrical services, or construction is preferred but not strictly required — technical lighting specifics can be taught.
Sales Track Record: Proven ability to meet or exceed sales targets, close deals, convert leads into contracts, and grow revenue through upselling and new client acquisition.
Operational Strength: Comfortable managing field personnel, logistics, high-volume scheduling, and making tough personnel decisions to maintain quality and efficiency.
Skills: Excellent organizational and communication abilities. Proficiency with field service software/CRM, estimating tools, and basic financial reporting. Tech-savvy and systems-oriented.
Other: Valid Florida driver’s license and clean driving record. Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for client meetings or during peak seasons.
The Ideal Candidate is a seasoned operations professional who understands the unique rhythms of a service-based business. You do not need specific lighting experience, as the technical aspects can be taught; however, you must have a proven track record of managing field personnel and logistics. Note on Seasonal Commitment: Due to the nature of the industry, it is a requirement to work through the busy year-end periods (excluding the actual holidays). To balance this, the company provides an extended break in the summer.
Why Join the Team?
Performance Incentives: Performance-based incentives tied to profitability and customer satisfaction.
Future Growth: Opportunity to move into executive leadership as the company expands geographically.
Benefits: 401k (after 12 months), 2 weeks paid vacation, paid holidays, and company-provided technology (laptop/phone) and attire.
